Presidents Message
Greetings Milton Rotarians and Friends,

Milton Rotary is changing.

This year we have removed every financial or scheduling barrier to being part of the club that we could.  The weekly attendance requirement has been replaced with a project participation requirement.  Dues have been reduced to $300 a year.  And anyone unable to join the club can be a Friend of Milton Rotary and help us do our good work.

And we have important work to do.  Our community is faced with a devastating substance abuse crisis.  Last week three Milton residents died from drug overdoses.  I hope we can expand on our partnership with the Milton Substance Abuse Council which we began under President Sheri’s leadership, and take part in the fight against this scourge.

I hope we continue our long tradition of supporting our young people, and sponsor students for a weekend at Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA).  I hope we continue to encourage young readers.  I hope we keep on helping students in the school music programs, while bringing music to the streets of town.  And as a former Rotary Exchange student in Enkhuizen, Holland, I hope we keep building world peace one teenager at a time by sponsoring long and short-term exchanges in partnership with the Milton Public Schools.

This year I hope we will continue to raise awareness, and raise money to support our goals.

We have a long tradition of meeting with our neighboring clubs in Braintree and Quincy once a year, and this year I hope we connect with all the clubs in our area – Weymouth, Holbrook, and Canton/Randolph/Avon as well.
We will open up one meeting a month to outsiders, to hear speakers of general interest.  Come hear what the president of our local hospital has to say on October 3.  Come listen to our superintendent of schools on November 7, and invite your friends.
I fervently hope you will be active participants in Rotary.  Together we can make a difference in our community and the world!

Yours in Rotary service,

Michael Maholchic
